Retake for the GAT

It may be to your advantage to take the GAT General Test more than once if you think that the scores you obtained do not reflect your true abilities. If your scores seem unusually low in comparison with other indicators of your preparedness for graduate studies, you may want to consider taking the test again. The test with larger score will be considered valid for evaluation of merit by your target institution.

How GAT is used by the Institutions

The GAT is an assessment test. Most of the Pakistani Public sector universities use its score as a part of their overall evaluation criterion for the admission or scholarship award to a prospective student of M. Phil or PhD. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has designated National Testing Service (NTS) the responsibility to conduct Graduate Assessment Test GAT-GENERAL for admissions in M. Phil and HEC Scholarship Schemes. The candidates will have to qualify other specified criteria of the Universities / HEC Schemes. Candidates with a minimum of sixteen years of education are eligible to appear in the test.

In almost all cases for evaluation of an applicant for admission in M. Phil or Scholarship award for PhD, the qualifying score of GAT is 50%. It becomes crucial as how strong academics an applicant has, he must achieve a score of 50% in the GAT so that he may be evaluated further for his desired goal. If an applicant fails to qualify the GAT, his application for admission or scholarships is rejected. A score of 50% does not ensure your admission or scholarship award. Final selection base on your, comparatively high score in the GAT along with many other evaluation factors.
