Entry Test MCQ :: Current Electricity

A wire of uniform area of cross-section A length L and resistance R is cut into two parts. Resistivity of each part
[A]. remains the same[B]. is doubled
[C]. is halved[D]. becomes zero

Answer: Option A

it should become double

how the hell should it become double...........R is directly proportional to L if length is halved...it should become 1/2 times the original...

they are talking about resistivity not the resistance... hence it should become double bcx resistivity is inversely propotional to length.

Sairah is ri8 it should be doubled as it is questioned about resistivity not resistance

The resistivity depends on the material and not on the dimensions of the wire. a)Remain same Or since area of cross section is the same , the resistance of each part will be half the full wire. But(resistance /length) before and after cut will be the same since R/L = (R/2)/(L/2) = R/L remains the same.

Resistivity of a material remains constant whether it is taken about 1 cm.....or 1km... (on a constant temperature and other physical conditions remains the same) The Resistivity of a material depends on temperature( and other physical conditions such as air pressure) and the nature of the material (avaibility of free electrons....number of free electrons are same in an element atoms). While RESISTANCE depends on length, cross-section area and the resistivity of the material sO RIGHT OPTION IS "A"(Remain the same)
